This is my first year growing them planted in various parts of the garden. These don't look happy.

Also do you cut away side branches and just have one main branch?

They’ve got a serious case of rust. Happens a lot but in all honesty I’ve never had plants this late in the season, I don’t know if anyone else does, but they’re nearly always done by July for me.
When did you sow/plant them?

Yes definitely rust I’m afraid. They look beyond saving to me but see what others think. I have never pruned broad beans, I don’t think that is a normal requirement.

I agree with the others that they are beyond saving now. I’ve never pruned broad beans either. They grow as they like and seem to do fine that way.

Can't remember when I sowed them. Have 2 more lots growing well and well way from them but no where near ready not planted the winter ones yet.
Any ideas why I would have got it in the first place? Never grown them before.

Rust is usually an air borne disease. If the plants are far enough apart to ensure decent air circulation, there's little you can do to prevent it probably

Odd I have Scorzonera nearby that appears to have rust like effect on some leaves??

There are different rusts - they tend to be host-specific (or at least family variety specific)

Checking other plantings in multiple locations all appear to have rust or at least the Start of it.
How about Grano Violetto? The winter Hardy one anyone tried it?
I am wondering if it would make it with out the rust.
Also as wind born is it inevitable that I will get it next year. Nobody grows vegetables near me, so wondering how I got it in the first place?

As it's windborne, the fungus will have come in on air spores.

Make sure you remove and dispose of all leaves with rust on them - don't leave them lying around to reinfect next year.

What do you think of the odds on me getting it again next year?
Will the winter one stand a better chance of making it?
I am thinking of planting the winter hardy ones in the one location where I didn't get it.
They were the first I planted.
