delicate veg and cold nights
« on: July 31, 2015, 22:44 »
The second half of July seems to have brought some unusually cold nights for many parts of the UK (near freezing even as far south as Oxfordshire). How are people getting on with the more temperature sensitive crops such as french beans. courgettes and tomatoes? They must suffer to some extent when overnight temperatures are dropping down to 3C and lower in places.

Just leave them to get on with it, they'll survive or they won't. That's why we grow a whole range of veg...you win some, you lose some.

Ok so far. Can't believe that I'm having to close the Greenhouse door in August ! Down to 4.2 in there the other night.

If anything it seems to have made the toms in the greenhouse take on colour quicker than they had been  ???
Maybe coincidence, I suppose ...................

A couple of 'overflow' peppers in pots outside, look a tad worse for wear, though  :(

Oddly, the runt of my February sowing of Shirley tomatoes, which I stuck outside, is now taller than its siblings in the greenhouse.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

And, as I mentioned before, my first ripe tomato was from the unheated greenhouse from a later sowing!
