Im going to sow some garlic today, and from what i have heard from other allotment holders, they have sown a large amount in one go.
the main problem i had with my first year as an allotment holder was growing too much in one go and thus having alot of waste.
next year i will be more vigilant and stick to growing in successions. Is this advisable with the garlic too, or does it keep for a relatively long period?
Cheers
Matt

Autumn planted Garlic that is harvested in summer will easily keep to the following spring and probably well into the summer. The cloves that you are planting now will have gone in the ground the previous autumn so that's a good guide.
The key is correct storage, when you lift the plant ENSURE that the leaves and roots are left on so that they dry out.

There are two types of garlic (not variety), hard neck and soft neck. The hard neck will not storeas long as soft necks so should be used up first.
If cleaned and dried off properly garlic will keep for months and months. Cheers, Tony.

I grow Solent White, and when I harvest them, I tie them like ordinary onions, and leave them hanging. They last all year like that. I just take what I need. :tongue2:
