I've been looking for a second greenhouse for a while and couldn't resist the 8x10 crittall for £150. 

So does anyone have any idea how I can get the 10ft ridge in the car and home (no roof bars).

No suggestions but hope it's not a mini or a smart car you must have contacts with a van,how far have you to travel with it?

Wrap the long sections in something so that they do not scratch the roof of your car, attach two ropes centrally to the bundle with really tight clove hitches, and feed the ropes through your open car windows and tie off tightly.

Attach a nice little flag to  both end of the bundle and off you go.

PS make sure you have put everything you want to n the boot before putting the bundle on the roof

None that I could ask a favour of  which is very poor and a situation I really should fix ! It's only about 20miles so no major hassle.

Sounds like you've done this before    Any suggestion ass to what to warp things in ? I'm concerned it wont stay put when tied.

bubble plastic and parcel tape wrapped round.  That should stay put and protect your car.  But the poles might slip out the middle if you stop too fast...   You would need secondary ropes to the pole fore and aft to keep them tethered.

Bubble plastic wrap a couple of pieces at a time and then fold over and securely tape with parcel tape.

You can also use (as I did) with the same wrapping style an old bed sheet on the diagonal.

Im not a fan of hairy drives home. I've been meaning to get roofbars for ages and I always put it off, so I've bitten the bullet and bought some.

I spent the day taking the glass out, there were a few cracked panels but I managed not to break any more  336 'G' clips later the glass had filled the car completely - I really noticed the weight too, I had spread it over 3 seats but it must have been around 30st.

Framework down tomorrow, shouldn't take more than an hour it looks in surprisingly good condition, not sure how old it is though, the nuts are 7/16 !

That was what held the ark together was it not? 

It doesn't matter as long as you can get them unscrewed OK, though. And I am glad you have bought roof bars. You'll find all sorts of uses for them now, you know

I really do pick wonderful days to do outside job  It had to be the worst weather for ages today, pouring with rain, cold and very windy. Couple of stuck nut which sheared off the bolts but everything went inside the car apart from the 5 10ft lengths. Would have been easier with another set of hands but what isn't. 

If anyone sees a manual for an 8x10 crittall let me know - Id like to check some bits I just didn't think were built right.

I think I'll probably need it too, as it now looks like the attached.

Seems Crittall has gone bust, instruction manuals aren't available and neither are direct replacements for the screws/nuts/bolts  I can't seem to put my hands on the left over standard bolts I have to see if they'll fit or if I'll have to cut a slot in them.

I hosed everything down yesterday and removed most of the moss but having measured out for the base there's a 9½" difference in height between the ground level over the 8' width    either I dig out the the high side or raise the low. I really wish whoever built these terraces had done it properly, I'm not expecting glass flat but 1:12 is a pain.

These sell the 11mm alli bolts that fit a crittall greenhouse, I think.
