Farewell Willow
« on: October 18, 2023, 19:01 »
Just got back from the vet.
Last week she's been a bit out of sorts and yesterday started bleeding from her whotsit. I thought a UTI but the vet said she didn't seem to have an infection, just an inflamed bladder. Gave her a jab that she thought would sort it but today she was losing a lot of blood.
Still alert and agile but obviously distressed. I may have just gone over the speed limit getting her back to the vet.
They did a scan and she had a large mass in her bladder affecting her urethra and bowel. After discussing options we said goodbye. She went in my arms thinking we were going home, which we were in a sense.

We'll bury her in the family cat cemetery under the tall trees

She's less than a year old in the photo below from 2009 but looked just the same today.

So we have four cats now...

Oh my heart goes out to you and the family, John x
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Oh my condolences to you all, but you did the kindest thing. Letting them go is tough

You buy in to lovely animals like her, and despair when they leave, John!

Know how you feel, so chin up and remember the good times...

It was the kindest thing to do, but that doesn’t always help how you feel about it.

I am sure she had a wonderful life and it sounds like a peaceful and reassuring end.  That is something every cat would wish for x

It's so sad when you have to let them go, it never gets any easier, does it?
You know you did the best for her, that's all you could do.

It doesn't get easier. She was still lively and alert, full of life. The vet said they could do an exploratory operation but it's position was such she didn't hold out any hope. That would have been pandering to my wish to delay by stressing her. I asked about strong painkillers for her and she said they couldn't control the pain she would be suffering as it progressed by tomorrow. So the decision wasn't that difficult.
The tumour was filling the bladder at the neck of the urethra and constricting her bowel.
Our cats are all quite elderly and creatures of habit now - changes in behaviour are often a warning.
Really hit me this morning when I drew the curtains in the lounge - usually she's on the radiator shelf watching the world with Pixie but today just Pixie.

Keep talking it through John...
