Ideas for geting rid of gooseberry sawfly  please!
Does washing up liuid solution work effectively or do I need a pesticide?

My gooseberries got "destroyed" by sawfly:

For the last three or four years two of my gooseberry bushes have been eaten to a stump by sawfly. Frankly, they looked like they were dying. I had another bush about 12 feet away that was never affected, so I contented myself with that and never did anything about the others. Lo and behold, this year they've grown strong and healthy, loads of fruit, not a sign of the sawfly (fingers crossed). I've no idea what made them go away (maybe the very cold winter?) but they've gone, and it certainly wasn't any chemicals cos I don't use them.

Oh. Sorry dont know what else to say. Strange things arnt they,those sawfly? maybe some years are just bad for them. That skeletal gooseberry bush! At least the berries would be easy to pick!

Indeed.  Crossing fingers for next year.  They did the same to this bush last year so it's war next year!
