Title: Vegetables on the march. . .
Post by: Ruby Red on February 17, 2008, 09:28
My sister told me yesterday that she read in a paper, that this is the first time since the war that vegetable seed has outsold flower seed. Thats brilliant isnt it. Obviously people are wanting to know where there food is coming from and know that they arent eating anything grot. The worm is turning. This is the first year ive bothered with veg.I was talking to a neighbour yesterday and hes dug over part of his garden as well for them this year. We are going to swop seeds this week.

I don't know what it's like where you are, but you can tell from a walk around your local garden centre what's on the mind of local gardeners.
Ours used to be all flowers and "trinkets". I've noticed a very large increase in the amount of veg items there, from propagation right though to after care on the plot.
They've even built a vegatable garden in the grounds so that people can go and have a look at what is growing at the moment. It's a shamefull plug for there odds and ends, but very usefull if you don't know one end of a spade from another.
i've also noticed a large growth in their fruit selection.
like yourself, i reckon it's got to be a good thing. :D
