Title: When to prune?
Post by: Ruyboy on February 25, 2009, 19:05
Hi
My Plum tree, one of the brunches don't have any blossom and it looks dead, and the other brunch is very lively. When can I cut  the odd brunch? should I cut now ?

Kind Regards

General rule for stone fruit is not to prune when wet and cold (Winter).
Greater risk of silver leaf infection.

If however the deadbranch is diseased and that is why it has died then I would cut it out. Could already have something.

If you do cut now then if you have something to paint over the cut I suggest that you ise it.

My plum tree is stood standing there with not a sign or glimmer of life yet.

Here's hoping it'll come to as the weather warms!
