Sqawking Silkie Hen
« on: February 05, 2008, 13:13 »
Daisy my little Silkie hen has been creating a right old racket today, wondered what the heck was up with her.  Like alarm calls, kept going out to see what was wrong - no cats about, no hen harriers or eagles, no foxes not even any aircraft from our local airport.

Checked the hen house whilst out for eggs and hey an extra one :!:

Daisy has started laying again and all the racket must of been her trying to tell me and saying "hey come and look what i've done".

I had no idea hens made so much noise when starting laying- I was worried about my "mother hen" as she went from being virtually silent for months (while looking after her daughters) to a squawking banshee.  Then she produced her first egg (first or me).  She squawked for a week before starting laying.
Unfortunately she now kicks off at any opportunity - laying an egg (before and after), her daughter laying, getting up, going to bed, at me for corn in the afternoon and she's really loud.
I find it funny, just hope the neighbours do too.
Is everyones hens so loud or have I got a gobby one!
