Title: shed base
Post by: shed head on February 05, 2013, 20:50
Hi All

Anyone got ant ideas about a quick & easy shed base?

Would pallets work ok?

Thanks

I guess it really depends on how much weight you're looking to put in the shed.

I went belt and braces with mine:

6 breeze blocks as pad stones, covered with membrane.
4x2 tannalised timber made into a rectangle to suit with additional batons for strength

Once the timber frame was in place and level, I backfilled over the membrane with gravel.

The shed's 4'x3' (sentry box size), but it isn't going anywhere. Still need to sort out the guttering ::)

It only took around an hour to build the frame - the shed took about 4 hours to construct from flat pack!

I also screwed the base frame to a store I'd already built out of pallets, anchored into the ground with spare fence posts.

If you decide to use pallets, then make sure you treat them and try to put something waterproof underneath as they'll probably rot given a few years hard use.

Cheers

Ben

Paving Slabs - the gaps let the air flow in two directions under the shed and let the base dry out and plastic under to reduce the damp from the ground and weeds

Meant to say - the base has legs on so that it's level, but also to promote a decent amount of airflow underneath...

The legs are about 6 inches long...
