I have the chance to put a 12" 8" greenhouse on my plot which would take up about a third of the plot. I already have a shed on the plot. Do you think this size is a bit excessive? Or do you think the bigger the better?
This is my first year on the plot.

The bigger the better, but you'd better check if you are allowed one that big on your plot.
We're not allowed any bigger than 6 X 8 here :(

If it is within the rules there is no such thing as a GH that is too big :nowink:

I think that 10 x 8 is about the smallest size in which temperature control is made "easier". Below that size it is very difficult to keep a greenhouse cool enough in summer. I have 12 x 10 and 30 x 10 and I don't have to bother with shading in summer etc.
That said, I think the number of vents is also important. Definitely need 4 roof vents for a 12' long greenhouse, and preferably a louvre (perhaps in the back wall) so that you can use convection cooling in Spring / Autumn rather than having to open the door and let very cold air blast in (on sunny days early in the year)
How do you want to use the greenhouse? I use my smaller one for raising plants / propagation. 10' wide is too much, the staging is 4' wide (i..e central path is about 2' wide) and it is very hard to reach the back. Whereas for the cropping greenhouse (I grow in the soil) I plant three rows of plants in the 4' wide beds, and I can (just about!) squeeze in between them. So for cropping 10' wide might be best, for growing on staging 8' wide might be.
There is also the option to have temporary staging in spring to raise plants, and then remove it and grow Tomatoes etc in the ground, or on the floor (in containers)

I have a 6 x 6 Twin wall polycarb and an 8x6 glass, both at home and at this time of the year they are bursting at the seams. If its allowed on your site, go for it.
