Good catch crop
« on: March 22, 2010, 12:06 »
I have two raised beds, 8' x 4' and one is full, sown with salad leaves, spring onion, radish, beetroot and a forgotten arno garlic bulb but i'm saving the other bed for toms and courgettes, having decided to do runner and french beans in bags of compost cut in half and stood on end. As it's at least another 6-8 weeks until toms can go outside, what should i sow in the other bed as a good catch crop bearing in mind i'm in  spring onions/radish/salad etc for ages!

Kind regards, RD.

Spinach? It's quick and hates heat so now is a good time.

How about early turnips (as opposed to maincrop), or quick growing Kailaan stem broccoli (or you can harvest whole as baby plants in about 30 days) or something like Rapini/Raab (again, another broccoli "type" although it is more related to the turnip where all parts of the plant are edible, harvestable in about 40 days-ish)
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.
