No Mincepies !!!¬
« on: December 24, 2021, 15:48 »
On Tuesday I went to finish my shop at the Tesco superstore.   I saw the Manager trying to scuttle passed, but caught him and asked where the pies are.   He said we have sold out.    My daughter went yesterday and today, no mincepies and none at the tesco local either.       What is the world coming to.  No wonder the manager scuttled away.   ::)     Mrs Bouquet

Pity I'm not closer as we have about 40 in the freezer, they only need cooking.   I tried last year with puff pastry for a change but we didn't like them as much as the plain sweet shortcrust ones.   Paul is a real glutton for them.

I went into our Tesco, a big one , at 7am this morning and bought the last box of mince pies on the shelf .
Enquired as to any more and was told , sorry sold out . What a state of affairs  >:(

I used to make home-made, using our Nonesuch- brand mincemeat as a base, adding my own apple and additional raisins.

It has been a few years since I made one though.

Like an idiot I did homemade mincemeat one year after which no one would eat ship bought.  Mince pies in the freezer although the supply shrank while I was in hospital in getting my new hip.

A combination of the company not going too nuts with Christmas stock (fear of lockdowns) and the early bird club, cleaned us out of lots of things this year.  Yesterday we had a few mince pies, no puds, very few seasonal choccies left and no tins of biscuits.  There were a few last minute shoppers looking bereft and panicked

We steered them towards other treats and they came round  :)

Traditions of DIY Christmas cooking seem to be dying out.

I've not been bothered to make any this year either  I binned the home made mince meat during a fridge clean out (it had been in there a number of years) the stuff in the supermarkets is far too sweet and needs tweaking starting with a good slug of Southern Comfort.

You're on your own with that I'm afraid, the only good use for it is in cooking.

Tesco superstore, I might have guessed. My local one nearly always seems to run out of something every week even pre-covid. I'm convinced they are incompetant at stock management, of course now they have COVID and a shortage of lorry drivers as convenient excuses instead.
