Freezing cold in the aisles...
« on: July 27, 2021, 12:23 »
I've just got back from our local Tesco, where we do most of our shopping and particularly like the people who work there so it's always a pleasant experience, and some banter always occurs - especially with the ladies on the aisles and the tills!

But they've just had a refurb done and I've noticed that all the shelves which used to be the enclosed chiller cabinets, have become doorless! Apparently, it's a new 'trend' in chilled sales, and in fact there's a better and more relaxed trawl down the aisles, and you can just grab anything without breaking your fingers, but IT'S FREEZING down the meaty bits!

Would I be right in saying that there's quite a lot of energy pouring into these new shelves, and is it all equated to not needing - say - air conditioning in the rest of the store? It isn't the warmest of days today, but even walking outside, it seemed a damn sight warmer than the earlier, colder areas of the store...

Anyone else seen or know about this new 'design'?

Seriously? Talk about low hanging fruit or not as the case may be

They're designed to create thermal barriers as walls and are probably more efficient than the displacement caused by the air movement of opening and closing a door all the time and customers leaving things open.  Added bonus is you don't have to physically touch somethings 100's of others have to get your at food.

It's a visit to Waitrose this morning, as we need some Basil for the bruschetta we didn't have yesterday... I'll check the temps and report back!

We're so lucky to have them as well as Tesco in our 'big' village, as they complement each other, so all works well for everyone! We even have a cinema  - Kino (old village hall), but as the last film we went to see was 'Philomena' (2013), I expect they've still got their air-conditioning organised, but it's a great place, especially as you can take a large glass of red to your seat...

All that 'global freezing' - seems a shame to waste it...;0~

If the aisles are cold it might discourage the trundlebunnies from dithering about spending 10 minutes to choose from one of six products.

Sorry, forgot to report back...

No difference in Waitrose, but they have fewer cold cabinets anyway!

The Pate de foie gras, Bollinger and caviar butties were magnificent, and we even had a personal concierge there to park our car, and carry out the comestibles!

And all for £3,750.00 (plus VAT)!

;0)
