Blossom end rot.
« on: July 18, 2013, 08:55 »
I thought I was doing well! First blossom end rot found this morning. I reckon it's inevitable to get this. I have a dozen plants on the go, 4 different varieties. All sown in the same compost, all potted up it the same mix. All given exactly the same water at the same time every day. Only one plant has been affected. Why should only one plant develop BER?

Maybe they are not getting enough water?  It's not really a disease but lack of calcium - and when there is a shortage of water, the plant is unable to take up calcium.  As for being just the one plant, perhaps it's demands may have been a little higher than the others at the time the fruit was setting

Marzano's are fine, so are G Delights and Tigrellas. Just one of the Moneymakers has any BER, and then only on two sets. About half the toms on these sets are affected.

As I said before, all the plants are watered at the same time with the same amount of water, so it shouldn't be down to irregular watering.

I have 18 assorted tomato plants and only the Black Russian are showing signs of BER. As mum says, some are more prone to it than others.
