Hi

New to this, so hope it's in the right place!
Have "moved on to" an allotment today. There are some blackcurrant bushes on the plot, but absolutely no fruit, or any hints there were any. There is plenty of healthy looking foliage. Not sure how long they have been uncared for, but they seem pretty healthy. Is there a reason for their lack of fruit - should I keep or start afresh?

i dont know much about these  - inherited a bush this year and got a few fruit but that was almost two months ago now - and thye now look like they had no fruit too - could be that birds stripped them?
someone else who knows what theyare talking about will be along shortly i'm sure  , sorry not much help to you

I don't grow blackcurrents but my lotty neighbour does.

Last year his bushes were packed with fruit, but this year there's very little so maybe it's just a bad year?  Mind you, we seem to have more blackbirds this year which will strip a bush as soon as look at it!!

I think they benefit from pruning too so it may pay to look for pruning tips on how to get the most out of it next year.

I dont grow them ,but lots do on our site and they all fruited very well,most were harvested a month ago.

Could be, thing is there are no fruit at all, and no real evidence that there have been, not even "in" the bushes. Just a bit odd. Think they may not have been pruned for a goodly while.
