Hello,

I need to get my plants outside as I have ran out of space since I transplanted them into larger pots, they are very strong plants but I am still unsure weather they should be out this early!

Also my tomato plants desperately need some support as you can see!

(first home grown chili!   )

(tomato plants)
Another question I have is would it be feasible to fit 2 tomato plants per flower bucket (the type in the first picture)?

Thanks.  :)

Tomatoes are not frost hardy, neither are chillies (are these similar to chilianos?).  therefore it is risky to put them out without protection until the risk of frost has passed.  In the north this is generally considered to be the end of May.  It may differ for different parts of the country.

Hope this helps.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'd do in Manchester as Yorkie says and I'd put only one plant in a bucket. Any chance you could plant some in the ground?

You can stick a cane in the pot, by the way, but if they are bush types, you better of letting them trail about, they will grow extra roots from the stalk for support.

Crikey kid, it must have warmed up somewhat in Manchester since the 60's when I was at uni!!! I would definately not risk them outside this early. Have you any protection for them? They look to be really healthy plants. You could always experiment like I'm going to. Bought a big tom bag and some of the flower pots with leaks in the bottom are going to go on top of the bags with the toms inside. giving larger and more secure roots. After losing all mine outside to blight last year I am going to keep some inside this year and hedge my bets
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!

If you are desperate for space you are going to have to build a frost-free space for them. Get some fleece (99p shops or Tescos) and use your imagination.
Mine are under plastic for a while yet and I live in the Costa del Walthamstow.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I put some of my nonfrost tollerant plants out in the coldframe yesterday to harden off a bit. I was going to bring them in overnight but when I went to get them they were covered in ants! So I've risked leaving them out overnight.

I am 20 miles from Manchester and last year our last frost was June 1st.
I know because I scraped the frost of the car windscreen and couldn't believe what I was doing.

I am jealous of how big your tomatoes are - mine are tiny! Biggest of mine is only about three inches tall yet   mind you, I didnt have a greenhouse til last week, so they were on a north-facing windowledge for about 5 weeks....

Sharky in response to your question of whether to put more than one tomato plant in a bucket - I wouldn't.   Plants grown too closely together are susceptible to disease plus if you want a decent crop your tomatoes would enjoy having the whole bucket to themselves.   By the way your plants look as though they would appreciate some staking.   Pea sticks would work fine with the chile plants but the tomatoes need a bamboo cane.
