Late sowings of coriander / parsley
« on: October 21, 2021, 07:42 »
Does anyone do this with any success? I am in East Midlands and in the spirit of experimentation have just sown coriander and parsley seeds in a moist seed tray in an airing cupboard, will see if there is a harvest and what it looks like! They will be in a warm enough place but we are getting to the time of year where there will be a shortage of natural light so this will make the exercise more challenging...

I grew coriander from seedlings that someone gave me at the allotments in spring. I planted them out in my new poly tunnel & they did really well, I left them to go to seed & the seeds that I didn’t pick obviously fell to the floor. I began to water them after a few weeks & now have a carpet of coriander seedlings, but I don’t know how they’ll do over the winter in there. I was thinking of potting some up to bring home.

This link says coriander can tolerate down to 10 degrees F (-12 C in new money).

Picked coriander today - sown direct in early Sept and grown outside in an open bed. Also sow it in early spring (late Feb/early March). We find if grown in mid summer it runs straight to seed.
