on my plot ive got a couple of small fruit trees, what i believe to be plums. only problem is they are in the spot that i want to put my shed. has anyone got any tips on digging them out and moving them, and is it safe to do so at this time of year? any advice would be appreciated.

Depends on how sensitive you'd be to losing them I guess.

if's they're proper small ( ie, no higher than you ) I'd recommend first cutting a circle around them in the ground with a sharp spade to sever any shallow roots. then gradually work your way in.

to be honest, I personally think it's a bit too late to move them now - maybe underplant with something climber and something groundcover ( climbing beans and squashes, for example ) and plan to move them when dormant.

if you're pretty agnostic to keeping them, chop away.

thanks dave, the trees in question are still quite small between 2-3foot. so i can only assume they must have been planted by the previous plot holder. ( ive only had the plot for 6 months. ) i think ill risk moving them although may check with the site bosses to make sure i wont be upsetting anyone.
