Title: Chicken Moult
Post by: JMF on January 07, 2011, 13:06
Our White Sussex began losing her feathers about four weeks ago - some around her neck and mainly around her tail end she stopped laying and her comb is pale is there anything to worry about cannot see she is being pecked nor any infestation present.  However, yesterday I saw a bit of blood on her chest is there anything we can do to help her - she looks so fed up.  Eating ok with extra protein and poultry spice given. Any tips please.

Edited to correct spelling of "moult" for forum search purposes

Our Light Sussex stopped laying when she began to moult going into winter ::) she ended up looking like an oven ready bird  but she was fine even though it was below -14 sometimes, she's now fully feathered and laying again :D

Purple spray will hide any redness from the rest of the chooks and keep an eye open for any bullying.

Even though all hens moult at some time, the fully feathered always bully the moulters....you'd think they would understand how it feels, wouldn't you!
