poisonous plants
« on: December 11, 2007, 15:10 »
Can you tell me if there are any plants in the garden which will be poisonous to my hennies?
They are enjoying digging up all sorts of bugs, but also eating loads of plants. I don't mind as long as they're not gong to be harmed by any of them...help please!

They are quite clever birds and will try a little bit of a new plant and only go back to it if it has not given them a tummy ache.  You can do a google search for plants toxic to chickens.

like aunty said, they will leave anything alone if they don't like the taste of it

of the plants growing in their run mine always leave the comfrey, ragwort   and nettles alone.

they eat daisies, dandelions, plantains, grasses (all types), ragged robin...i can't think of any others...

i guess any plants that are toxic to us (such as foxgloves) would be best avoided.

 Mine are a law unto themselves. I put in parts of a butternut squash for them yesterday - which they have eaten in the past - but they've decided it's too scarey to eat and keep giving it the evil eye
