PSB Experts!!
« on: April 08, 2020, 10:22 »
Hello all,

I love my PSB but have found that my plants seem to be quite big with huge leaves and produce 10-12 quite nice large sized stems to eat.

Looking at other the pants are much smaller and seem to produce lots and lots of small really thin shoots to eat.

Im not sure who is getting it right?? would a higher yeild be lots of tiny shoots or less chunky ones? Are my plants spending too much energy producing leaves?

First 2 pics are of my plants and second 2 are of a neighbours.

Personally I think you're doing it right because you get the first flush of big stems with their florets. When you cut them off, all their energy goes into producing the side stems so their offshoots provides you with smaller ones.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

When exactly did you plant them?  Mine started producing about a fortnight ago, which is quite late, given that the packet says they are an early variety, but they were sown in March last year and planted out at the beginning of May 2019.   PSB are in the ground for a very long time, but worth it as they produce when there isn't much else about.  Six plants will give you an awful lot of PSB and take up a lot of space.
