I managed to get 2lbs of berries together to make a small batch of jam got a very good set using the pectin nice colour , im saving them up for my next batch now .

well if you can get in before the slugs , birds , ect but yes theres nothing like it , this year every thing just seems that bit better and my little green house is full of tomatoes , cucumbers and chillies , im so happyyyyy

I save ours up til I get 20, then we eat them fresh. With trying to lose weight at the moment, I am not eating jam, so fresh it is with a bit of sf jelly and hm yoghurt! mmmmmmmm :D :D

I was hoping to make some strawberry jam this year with the strawberries on our plot but even after caging them they eaten by slugs and there are not many ready at the same time so don't think I will be doing my jam this year :(

I freeze them in small bags, as they ripen, til there's enough for jam ;)
An excellent idea :D

I pick before to ripe and finish off on the window cill and then into the fridge , to day made strawberry mousse very yum and so simple .

I thought strawberries didn't freeze well? I may try that mum but there are so few to pick at a time that we just have them on our porridge :D

They go soft as does most fruit which is ideal for jam less cooking time. I freeze most fruit for jam.

ive made some jam and tomorrow will do a cheesecake I think and might get enough for jam as well .

a rather good cheese cake It was I have to say and couldn't have been easier , only one fly in the ointment was my son saying he now dosent like freash strawberries have you ever .

If you use frozen strawberries, you have to reduce the fruit to sugar ratio from 1:1 to 3:4 otherwise it doesn't set properly.

a friend let me loose on his large strawberry plot. I picked over 3 lbs yesterday and just made over 6 jars of lovely jam. I took advice from Vals receipes and added a large bramley apple which really helped with the setting, along with a couple of lemons.
