Just bought a bag of sweet potatoes from Aldi. The variety is Beauregard. Make your own slips for 85p per bag.

You just have to hope they haven't been sprayed with something to stop sprouting while in storage - Good luck :)

No harm in trying I guess, but my understanding is the slips you can buy are from varieties which are better suited to the very marginal UK climate.

Beauregard seems to be the most popular variety for UK growing, that's why I posted it.

Any shoots yet?
I grew some a few years back from an organic s pot ended up with the equivalent of a bag of carrots with a few slug holes
Tried to grow my own slips another year and the spud just wouldn’t sprout.
I should give them another go as I’ve got a lot of materials to make cold frames this spring

I started 8 of 'em in water, all got loads of root and shoots. best shoots so far abour 2". Plenty of time yet.
