SO GLAD I HAVE A GARDEN
« on: May 13, 2020, 20:45 »
I am so glad I have a garden, some very sad news last night my step dad of 35yrs,died last night so I have now lost 2 dads in my life.
Having had a very upsetting night I have been out in the garden keeping my mind busy digging holes moving shrubs, hoeing weeding watering, trimming planting, without the garden I would have been so so  sad and going mental with grief the garden brings life and is good for our mental health.
I thank god for our gardens and good health.Lillileaf

Thinking of you and your family, Lillileaf - the therapeutic effect of being in the open air with the scents and sounds of nature can indeed be a comfort.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Condolences lillieleaf, losing 1 dad was bad enough for me, as you say thank goodness for gardening, it really is amazing how therapeutic our gardens are to us.

My garden means so much to me because it gives back to you more than you would ever realise. When I was on chemo I wrote this poem and just hopes it helps you in some way.

MY GARDEN

I know a place where I can go
Through Lad’s Love, lavender and the thyme
Where the delphiniums and the columbine
Watch daisies dance in perfect time
As the foxgloves bow low.

I love a place where I can rest
And ease the heavy burden I must bear;
To lose my worries in soft evening air
And tread the grass (barefoot if I dare)
To seek the curlew’s nest.

I have a place, where I can find
No place for pity’s thoughts to hitch a ride
With the blowsy rose’s perfume by my side
To still my mind.

I have a place where I can sit
And stroke the softest, softest fur
On whiskered face. A lazy, lazy purr.
Tail across my knee. A stretch. A stir.
“And is it time for tea? Is it?”
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
