I would really like a nice eating apple, but don't have any space in which to put one in the ground.  However I've seen quite a few of the "balcony" type trees around.  I guess they are on extreme dwarfing root stock.

Anyway, has anyone had any luck on actually growing them in pots on a balcony?

I can easily get some 100L pots, and my terrace faces west, but has some exposure on the north and south sides too, and I'll probably have a max of 8 feet vertical growth space.

Yes I had a Spartan apple on an M27 rootstock which was lovely but it froze and died. You'd probably be fine where you are and the house would afford further protection if you did get frost.   There are loads of varieties now.  I didn't do so well with the Minarette one though and got no fruit at all on one that I tried to grow in a pot. The tree looked fine but not a single fruit on it ever  :D

Thanks CQ... I might have a look at some of the bigger garden centres to see what they have :)
