Japanese bantams - how do you keep them clean!???
« on: March 02, 2009, 13:49 »
Hello

I treated myself (couldn't help it really) to a gorgeous trio of white Japanese Bantams at the Reading bantam show the other weekend.  They are amazing and beautiful...
....and getting dirtier every time i look at them!

As chickens go, having a breed with short legs and wings which kinda touch the ground in WHITE may not have been the best idea, but they are simply stunning... Ooops

They are in a brand new hen house which is very posh and are on bark chips.. does anyone have any experience of keeping them and any tips (short of trimming their wing feathers!   ) on how to keep them clean please?  I would be really grateful for your advice, my wonderful fellow chicken keepers!

Maybe I should install an en suite...!   :D

Actually, I dont believe you have any chooks :tongue2: we need photografical evidence toot sweet. I mean, we may get the advice wrong. It depends on size and everything ??? well not exactly :nowink: but it sure would help gazillions ;) :D
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Sarah, I bought some pure white Belgian D'anvers at Salisbury, same problem as you.
They are still very white except for the wing tips which drag on the floor!!
Havent taken any photos yet, but will soon.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

Does it matter? Pip's white silkies sometimes get very muddy, but then after a while they'll appear clean again, we just leave them to it.
