Summer psb

I usually grow early or late flowering broccoli (and don't actually see any difference!)
I'm now trying one that crops in late Summer as well. It supposedly doesn't need the cold of Winter to stimulate flower production (in Spring.)
The seedlings are only an inch or so high but I planted as instructed on the packet. I shall prick out soon.
Has anyone tried this Summer type and how did it do?

I did it once, and we decided that we preferred it as a Winter veg as we had plenty of other veg at that time, so I haven;t grown it since.

Of course if you love Sprouting Broccoli the fact that its Mid Summer won't be an issue

My adult kids will eat psb at any time of the year.

Mine are about 2" high with only 2 leaves on them, pricked out of trays 2 weeks ago. Should they be like this at the mo'?? :blink:

A blackbird took an interest this morning in the trays looking for food for it's young, but only damaged about half a dozen.

This is our first attempt at summer PSB, so I hope I'm doing it right.

Hmm that blackbird is a cousin of the one on my plot. Netting, netting, netting is the answer!

I tried it last year - it didn't manage to actually produce any spears before it stopped growing in the winter (but you could see them starting to form and I sowed it at the very end of the period on the packet, around June IIRC). However, it survived the winter (despite the snow) and produced as normal in the spring - it's only just finishing up now.
