I bought 3 herb plants from Focus yesterday (they were doing 3 for 2) Sage, Rosemary and Thyme - look very healthy, well grown but when I got them home they are very pot bound ie roots very thick n tight - should I try and tease out the roots or am I best just potting into something bigger - never seen roots so tight and not sure if I will do more harm than good - sorry if this is a daft question

I would do both, tease the roots out before potting them into something bigger or even the ground.

They will tease out a lot more easily if the roots are well soaked first she says from experience.
