Some advice on an awkward corner please
« on: June 29, 2009, 17:46 »
Hi all

I have a coner of my guardan that im not sure what to do with... Iv put a photo of it below.

The facts about the corner in question:
  • 6x8 foot
  • It used to have an old compost heap on it
  • LOTS of bricks and DEEP old roots were in it but now dug out...
  • Is on the corner of a south and west fence
  • Has medium hight conifers on the other side of the south fence
  • Soil has heavy clay limps in it... but quite a bit of organic matter too
  • Gets mornng sun
  • Has an Oak tree near by but note really shaded from it
  • Keeps pritty moist but not water logged

The only plants I have to hand are some potted up brussel sprouts... they are about 10" tall and some sweet bounty sweetcorn, about one and a half foot tall...

Im not convinced that ether of these will give me anything from this space though is one of them worth a try?

If not... what else could be plantted there at this time?

Photo of the corner in question is bellow... long term it is probably going to have a shed on it... but not till next year

Thanks for any advice!

P.S South is to the left of the photo

I'd suggest vines, but they would need stability, so if you're going to put a shed on it, perhaps not

6x8 size 'gap' in a corner screams shed to me!! Think of all the things you can keep in it!?! Why not stand a few pots on it for now and plant them up? Then you can move them when your lovely new shed arrives  :D. Still time for some peas......

Id have a go at the sprouts, as long s they are firmed in..nothing to lose The SC is probably a no go as it needs lots of sun
