Title: Squirrels eating flower buds
Post by: Florablunder on February 07, 2020, 19:13
Well, it doesn't look as though I'll be getting any flowers on my camellia this year - having spotted one of the squirrels munching away on an unopened flower bud - looks like they are harvesting them just before they are ready to open.
Any ideas on how to stop the little rat-bags from doing this?

Squirrel trap? If it's a grey squirrel you legally cannot release it alive.

We had a problem grey squirrel that cost us a fortune in plants by almost destroying our beds and ripping plants out. I mixed seeds into lamb fat which it found very alluring.

Internet search for squirrel traps leads me to believe there are anti squirrel spray. No idead if or how well it works.

There is an idea here on this old thread that re-surfaced recently.  It might be worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestions - I like the idea of the balloons. If nothing else, it could provide some fun entertainment watching some hapless squirrel getting more bang for his buck!
