Summer at last
« on: November 03, 2009, 07:37 »
Well it is early summer and like all good Kiwis' I have come out of hibernation.
It is time for my report from the antipodes just to make you lot jealous. I started a lot of veges early in my leanto greenhouse and took a big punt and planted spuds in late August. We have had new potatos (Cliffs Kidney) with dinner and there is nothing to compare to that first dig. I have carried over my heritage tomatos again this year and they have small fruit on already. Picking salad leaves (I suppose they are healthy) spring onions and radishes.
The spring weather has been kind so far, warm days and the occational shower. we have had light frost at night but I have covered the tender stuff up and had no losses yet.
The price of plants and seeds from the nurseries have gone through the roof this year as more people are putting in gardens because of the 'recession'. The first timers don't notice it but us regulars can see how much things have changed. Why would you buy a punnet of six lettuce seedlings for $4.99 when you can buy good lettuces at the market
for .89c each?
Catch up again soon

Almost did, ten years ago.  Found a fantastic place: 50 acres, sea, dolphins, mountains, greenery, nearby volcano (but no electricity  :(  , but then, who needs electricity ? )

Half the price of our place.

Paradise   :D    :D

But Madame didn't want to leave the children.  Don't think she was too keen on the volcano, either  ;)

Ah, well  . . . . . .

Yes when you come back from a warmer climate you miss the light 8) and the wine  ;) (which is usually very cheap to buy......British wine is occasionally good but it is never cheap...why not? :( )

MoS, that's bordering on talking about taxation and that as interesting as talking about global warming isn't it?  ;)

I still get phone calls at 4am from the UK so I am very aware it is on the otherside. I was just winding you all up as you go into winter.  : :D
