Is the fruit from this tree harmful to chickens
« on: October 08, 2011, 18:54 »
My chicken run is over hung by a crataegus (hawthorn) and it has produced red fruits which can fall into the run.
the chockens are eating them but I was wondering if they were harmful.
Any thoughts?

Hawthorn seed was designed by nature to be eaten by birds to spread it around so no problems.
Humans can eat the ripe `cheese' off the stones too.
In moderation is probably best, as always. :)
