Title: Dwarf apple tree advice
Post by: gildroyj1981 on June 18, 2014, 21:36
Hello

i very nearly bought a dwarf apple tree to go on my plot, bu ti got told by someone that i would need two trees so that they pollinate each other?    is this correct?
i also have a plum tree on my plot that will be less than 10 feet away from where im thinking of putting the apple, would this do for pollination instead of another apple?

any help or advice woul dbe much appreciated

In reverse order:

- a plum tree cannot pollinate an apple tree

- some apple trees are what is known as self pollinating, which means they can form apples when bees transfer pollen from flower to flower, whilst some need a pollinating partner (or sometimes two partners) from trees that flower at the same time. If you know the variety of the tree you intend to buy, you can check this information, or get some help here to do this if you need to

Hope that helps  :D
