Greenhouse glazing help
« on: May 27, 2012, 17:52 »
Hi all,

My first post on the forum and hopefully there are people in the know out there.

I have recently purchased a greenhouse on ebay.  The re-assembly should not be a problem, i am just unsure how i need to fix the glass.
I have watched some of the videos on you tube which use the "W" clips, to hold in the pane, but the greenhouse i have purchased does not have a lip for the clip to sit in.

I have attached links to a couple of photos i've taken.  One is a little section of glass above the door.  The other is the bottom left of the side panel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i have cucumbers and peppers in need of a good warm home.

Thanks,

Slugmonster.

hmmm that's not a design I've seen before... I've put up 3 greenhouses and all had very obvious beads along both sides (not at top or bottom though) that the W or G clips fit into - on yours I can see neither.

It looks like quite an old greenhouse - perhaps it has an older system - maybe even needs putty? I can see traces of it in some places. Is that a wooden frame? Are there any small nail holes that might suggest theere were slim battens holding the glass in place?

can you post pics of the side panels - or are these just the same?

Ditto.  I'm sure it's a putty job.   ::)   Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Thanks for the replies.

I will pop out and get some more photos, it does appear to be an old greenhouse.  It is 10*8, but one side is only half a frame.  I'm going to build the rest of the frame from wood and then box in.

The sections sides of the greenhouse are welded together.  The windows in the roof are the only section that is still glazed.

I have taken out the clips and will photograph these.  From what i can see the clips wrap around the frame.  I think i may have to make these from some sheet ally individually for each pane of glass, i've not seen anything like them in BnQ etc...
The glass does appear to be resting on something like putty, although it is only on one side of the pane.

If anyone could review the new photo's i post that would be great.

Thanks.

the z shaped clips are easy to find, and this place has 'bendy' ones that you can bend to your own shape

looks like an old B&Q re 1978-82 the glass sits on butyll tape (available from your local double glazier) and is held in place with the S clips 2 either side plus there should be two longer ones that lock top and bottom pane together if you cant get the spares try your local builder and ask if he has any concrete roof tile clips theese are made of alloy and are ideal to cut and shut
happy glazing!
