Title: Is my chicken ill?
Post by: chickencoop on June 29, 2008, 12:47
One of my chickens doesn't seem to be very well and I thought I would ask here to see if anyone can offer advice.
The symptoms are:
Not into her food as much as normal.
Not moving around with the other three, very lethargic.
She has laid her normal egg this morning.
When she does walk around it looks as though she is hunched up
almost as though the poor thing was bunged up a bit if you know what I mean.
We have been through this with one of the others a few weeks ago and she was better in a couple of days -- but I was wondering if there was anything I could give her to help clear it up faster - a sort of aspirin or laxative for chickens?

try feeding her some dandelion leaves sounds daft but Muntjac has recommended them in the past and I've given them to mine when off colour   and they do seem to be a "pick me up".

Also have they been wormed

Thanks for quick reply -- Yes we have also found dandelions to be helpful or at least a favourite with the girls - but haven't wormed the chickens yet -- I will have a look on lne to see what this involves

there seems to be a lot of this about, one of mine went like this, then stopped laying for a week or two. Checked her for any problems and couldnt find anything, she was just 'off'

we isolated her for a few days, fed her more dandelions and just kept an eye on her, now shes back to normal

i would put her in a house of her own for a while, give her a good check to rule out any serious problems, and just keep a good eye on her, oh and keep us posted on here!
