I recently ordered runner bean plug plants from a well known company. I have planted them out, but the 'first set' of leaves which were already there on arrival, had developed 'brown' patches with some of them curling at the edges. (I think I have already lost one plant) Maybe they didn't travel well?
There are now new shoots gowing, so I have 'pinched off' the brown patchy leaves to make way for new growth. What could have caused the brown patches?

They could have got scorched from leaves  being too wet in the sun under glass at the nursery, or just dried out in transit.

Sounds like they are growing away now though

The plants may even have got bashed about in the post!

Phone them and tell them you are not happy with what they have sent and if they are a decent company they will send you a replacement.
