Veg planning for new classes from September
« on: June 04, 2009, 12:47 »
Hi.
Have had a good growing season this year and the reception children have had a great time.
need to plan for two new classes for September: any ideas what I can plant that is quick growing and easy?
Space is rather limited although we have been inundated with large buckets!!
Also would like to find some new resources, ie: basically some freebies?
Would really like to hear from other schools  on how they have been getting on with their vegetable patch?
This site has been wonderful and I would like to thank everyone for all the help they have given me over the last year. Happy growing!!!

Radishes are always a winner and salad 'boxes' look fun... I think they did some on Gardener's World a couple of weeks ago, it's probably still on their website...

Spuds in larger containers?

My daughter came home with a potato plant in a bucket  :D

Radish, lettuce, spring onion, carrots.....I grow peas in large pots  ;)

Hi.
Also would like to find some new resources, ie: basically some freebies?

I'd contact the National Trust they've been giving away free seeds and tomato plants

Also just contact the seed companies - they're all having their sales now, so if you don't ask ....

I'm really envious...at my school we only ever got to do mustard and cress on a piece of damp lint....how the years have changed things :)

Chard is a good one too. And if you get the rainbow variety it is really quite a pretty plant too.

we did similar but grew ours in egg shells with faces on. With cubs we did similar but grew grass (lawn type not the other ) in stockings/tights stuffed with compost and made into caterpillars.

There was none of this veg growing - shame
Staffies are softer than you think.
