Title: Wind Disaster
Post by: Benny130 on June 08, 2012, 16:49
:( My little greenhouse blew over and has destroyed every single one of my tomato seedlings that I have grown from seed  :( Stems have been crushed. Ive potted them on deep to try and salvage one or 2 but dont hold out much hope.

Should I bother trying some more? I now have no tom plants. Or should i consider plugs and hope they catch up?

What a shame Benny

Even more so as they were ones you had grown yourself.

Some might well recover

If it helps, I saw quite large plants for sale in a couple of GCs today at fairly reasonable prices, in case you do decide to replace any

Replanting them deep is a good idea - they may well root from the stems, so don't give up on them.

I think it's probably too late to sow some more :(

Oh no, what a nightmare.

Are any growing any side shoots?  If so, why not try to break these off and try to start off new plants with them?

The following link shows you how to do this:  http://www.allotment-garden.org/grow-your-own/vegetables/tomatoes/tomatoes-from-sideshoots (http://www.allotment-garden.org/grow-your-own/vegetables/tomatoes/tomatoes-from-sideshoots)

I may bury them all then and hope for the best. Thanks all.   wind
