Mice Attacks on Potatoes?
« on: September 01, 2011, 20:48 »
Allotment colleagues have been digging up spuds which have been hollowed out to the skin. A photo would help so I'll try and get one, but there are scrape marks that look like teeth marks and the remaining part of the tuber is dry and disease free. Has anybody else seen anything like this? There's not much on t'internet about this type of attack.
All comments will be gratefully received. We have a bit of a mice/vole epidemic on the allotment at the moment.

Lots of people on our allotment are complaining about mice attacks on their spuds. I am gonna dig some of mine at weekend to see what they are like. There are a fair few empty and overgrowplots at our site that seem to harbour a lot of mice (And weeds )
I don't know what the eaten spuds look like yet I'm afraid, but I suspect it is mice.

Mice have gone through  my entire crop of both carrots and parsnips. They do seem to be extremely good at gnawing their way down the whole length of the root. I'm kind of surprised they've left any of your spuds because they've eaten every single scrap of my roots, nothing left but the snipped off leaves from the top.

But they do love spuds, they always used to make a beeline for them if I had mice in my kitchen.

That is the exaxct description of one of our pears -- hollowed out with teeth marks.

I wondered if it had been a rat
