nesting?
« on: February 05, 2012, 11:27 »
Hey...

I went down and fed the chickens but one seems rather reluctant and is moving the hay around her, to make it flat and also putting it on her back, while the others take it off her, then she sits there and pushes the hay around more and more until it's flat and around her.

Is she cold, or nesting, or broody or any ideas?

Hi the 3 you brought were from the same breeder as the broody one that i bought, maybe she is going broody ? if you dont want her to go broody then just keep moving her  :D

If she is broody she won't start to sit on her first egg. They wait until they have a few and then start to sit. The eggs are viable for up to 21 days but best that incubation starts at about 7 days. However, if you are going to let her sit let her decide when. :)

As I don't appear to have a cockerel sitting on them is useless isn't it? As from what I've read there not Asexual? (can't get chicks without some male love)

it still doesn't stop them going broody though, cockerel or no cockerel.
Staffies are softer than you think.
