Lay the bag flat on a table, cut off the handles, and the bottom. You can then cut a continuous ribbon of plastic bag, going round and round and round the bag. This ribbon can then be tied to others, and wound to make a ball of tape, for tying stuff, or you can knit or crochet with it. I saw a lady knitting a hanging basket liner with some once, and plenty of people make stronger carrier bags by knitting with the ribbon.
Peas out!

I hate plastic bags. I hate to see any plastic on allotments. Specially the type that dont rot down. And the ones that do rot ,flake in your hand and make a mess everywhere. Better that supermarkets  (like the ones in Ireland) stopped providing plastic bags and had paper bags. Natural materials.Much better for the environment. There's nothing worse than hedgerows  and countryside strewn with plastic waste materials or beaches with tide lines of plastic waste washed up from tipping.

Last year I cut some carriers into strips and tied them to canes to frighten the birds, but after a while, they break off in the wind and go everywhere.  I prefer the Irish idea too, okay I know paper bags can split, but they use them in the States too don't they?  and at least you can compost them afterwards.  I've got a couple of big bags from Wilkinsons I try to use, but I also use the carriers in my bin saves me buying bin bags.  Mind you, I don't get so much foodstuff in my bin now as the dog and chickens eat most of it and what's left goes on the compost.

:D I do indeed string up old cd's, as do a couple of other folks on the plots. Quite funny in the spring and summer, as it looks like a daytime disco, boogie on down!!!

Have you got a pic of the obelisks you made from pallet wood? Anything I can envisage seems a bit hefty.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

What do you use to tie on the cds,I tried string but the cds cut through it.
I don`t know if they really scare the birds but they are spectacular on a breezy sunny day.

If you have a dog the only use for old plastic bags is as a pooper scooper - who needs an expensive plastic spade or expensive bags from the pet shop - old plastic bag does the job just as well.
