Sleeping Arrangements!

I have read numerous threads regarding this topic but I am still unsure what to do!?

I have 3 ex-batts that I have had for 4 weeks.  Ever since we have had them they have slept in the nest box.  They have a lovely perch that they have never even tried!  My OH thinks that I should just let them be and let them sleep wherever they want - having had a hard life etc etc  (the girls, not my OH).  My only problem is having to pick out the poo in the mornings. 

If I continue to let them sleep in there can I use wood shavings as bedding to save on straw.  I don't want to appear to be a bad mother and will do what everyone thinks is best.

What do you think?

I let mine do what they want to do sleeping wise they only have wood shavings in the nest boxes and are fine

If you really want them to perch then maybe you could lift them on to the perch once they've gone to bed Is the perch higher than the nest box? As that helps
