Lots of flesh from 1 for 5/6 people.

Is there a small variety? There's only two of us, so I suspect we'd end up wasting a lot of it as I wouldn't think they'd keep too long once they were cut open, but I wouldn't mind having a try with these.

I am not aware of a small variety. There are only the two of us as well but we always ate ours in one go. You could always pick the fruits when they are not fully grown at about 6 inches. Having said that, I guess that a cut fruit would last for a few days in a plastic bag in the fridge but my wife tells me that we haven't done that.
If I can grow things in Shetland, then you can certainly grow things where you are!

It is about 8 inches veggieman, and a very pale yellowy white.

Starling - at eight inches I would suggest that the crop is ready to be picked.

The squash is ready when the fruit stem starts to dry out, changing colour and the foliage starts to die down.
