Can anyone tell me what the RHC classify rhubarb as? I have ordered a copy of the RHS Horticultural Show Handbook but it won't arrive in time for the agricultural society show, and I need to know whether I can enter my rhubarb.
I know that scientifically it is a vegetable, but we eat it as a fruit - so what does the RHS say??
If anyone can advise, I would be very grateful!!

I have always regarded rhubarb as a fruit as I have it with custard and I can't think of any vegetables that I would want to be accompanied by custard.
That wasn't a very scientific answer, was it?!

Not sure but it may well be classed as a veg.In emergency, e-mail Wisley!

according to this (http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:ZJJ9OSAkcY0J:www.ramsbury.org/organisations/clubs/horticulture/showschedule2010-booklet.pdf+RHS+judging+rhubarb&hl=en&gl=uk&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESj-_gnwvwfPyALk-b1M3xWGlROzkzKw6it4waQKWA08DsCyDOXSmdVGDJ9qN7WtSp_8G0asNaqcZ-pb-FyJBjsNjFVd4qpH-dQPJKPqNd6cx6UAH5D3c2oPe_-Jm10aOz1D9Bi9&sig=AHIEtbRpnlQhqX3h2ge0kYgDTARB_1b8eg) it is a vegetable.

Thanks mumofstig - I had a look at the document and it lists tomatoes as a vegetable and we all know they are technically a fruit! Actually so is a marrow isn't it?
I am now more confused!
science vs RHS rules vs traditions vs how we eat them! AArrggghh :nowink:
