Only recently gained an allotment and boy how addictive is it..I waited 5 years on a waiting list and eventually got one and  yes it was like being 12 again and standing outside a sweet shop...
That was 2 years ago and still I am on a learning curve and recently, due to the fact I am always when I have spare time doing something or helping someone, I have been asked to join the Allotment Holders Association in our area..
I Love it....at 50 I have found a hobby, pastime call it what you like which gives me great pleasure and satisfaction, and produce....What can I say Happy Days are hear again...P S I do need some growing tips. Happy Growing people
