New bees
« on: April 17, 2012, 12:29 »
My son's bees are moving in today!!  He had the beekeeping course for his birthday last June & the hive and bees are this year's present.

Looking forward to getting to know a bit more about these fascinating creatures, along with the mysteries of their care.

(I note my sugar store has been plundered to make syrup to give them a start while they find their way around..... so it appears that the giving ain't stopping)

Sounds like you are looking forward to the new additions.  It is something I would love to do in the future when all my other projects are sorted.   ::)

Until then I will read with interest everyone elses experiences.   :)

I stand and watch the bees round the hives at our site for ages --- fascinating  :)

I love my bees and can and do watch them for hours!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Bees are fascinating to watch and to keep, can't wait to get another colony very soon; I'm missing my babies!

Yes, my allotment neighbours (who originally got their bees from me in May last year when I needed to split my hive for swarm control) need to split their hive as part of their own swarm control so I'll be getting some next week or the week after

The only difficulty will be that I use a National and they use a Top Bar - hope a Heath Robinson approach works!

I've not had chance to look in mine for a couple of weeks because of the cold wet weather,I hope they're not preparing to swarm.I've got a buyer for one of the colonies.
