Scalloped edge pan courgettes
« on: August 27, 2020, 12:20 »
Hi
Ive read the old thread about these types being less productive but just wanted to ask if you are supposed to remove the female flowers. Currently have two huge plants, lots of flowers but only one courgette forming. Sure ive grown them before ok but on a different plot. They are next to butternut squash which have too many fruit forming so????
Much appreciated  ;)

If you removed the FEMALE flowers you would get no patty-pans at all  :nowink:
I don't think removing male flowers would make much difference, either. Perhaps the bees just preferred the butternut flowers, this year.
IMO It's not been a good year for squash of any description, my harvest will be about half of the usual, the only thing that changed was the weather.

Thanks Mumofstig,
Think i may have confused my genders there, the ones with long stem and flower LOL. I was looking forward to having some as they are the only ones i've grown this year,
Oh well, maybe next year  👍🐝😞

My courgettes have been rubbish this year - both in the greenhouse and in an outside bed. They started really well with some beauties and then went rapidly downhill. I put it down to weather and variety (don't ask - can't remember!)  :)

Hi Vagabond,
glad I'm not the only one who forgets what varieties I've planted.
I bought a spirallizer expecting to make cougetti so guess i'll have to buy them 😞
