:roll: Hi can anyone offer an explanation as to why one of my hens has suddenly started laying eggs with soft shells. I have three hens all have been laying well for the last couple of months.

If she seems well in every other respect it could just be that she needs some more calcium in her diet.

If she is fed on layers pellets then she should be getting enough, but if she free ranges and has other types of food as well then she may not be getting enough calcium.

Make sure the hens always have crushed oyster shell available to them and I would advise adding some limestone flour and a few drops of olive oil to their pellets to for a couple of weeks (to about a month) to give a quick calcium boost.

Could you tell us about your hens ages, health history and feeding regime.

Hi, thanks for advice will try your suggestions. my girls are allowed to free range and enjoy lots of treats as well,e.g.pasta.So could be that she(I think its Myrtle) thats laying the soft eggs needs extra calcium.
