cat still born help please
« on: May 24, 2010, 06:09 »
my cat went into labour yesterday, she is due wednesday. her first kitten was borrn at 10-30 last night,  it was  born dead and was very deformed, no facial features, no ears, only a slight mouth. after she gave birth to it, everything has stopped, she is not having contractions, the panting has stopped and she is walking around completely normal. i know there are more kittens because i can see them moving.
any ideas???

sorry no advice to offer here but if it was me I would contact the vet just in case she needs an emergency cesarean. So sorry, but good luck with the rest of the kittens xx

Yep, that sounds like time for a vet to me too. If the others are deformed they could be stuck.

I have heard that if a cat or dog (in fact many animals that have litters) can give birth to one that has died if its too big to be reabsorbed and carry on the pregnancy until the others are due.
This maybe whats happened especially as she isnt contracting anymore and she isnt due till wednesday! Your vet will be able to help though

Vet, definitely. You would never forgive yourself if you didn't and anything was seriously wrong,

I too have heard that animals sometimes 'pass' a stillborn and then carry on with a normal pregnancy but, as the others said, the vet's the very safest option to be sure.

Very sad to hear.

I have posted about this before but my Boxer bitch gave birth to four puppies and then 'asked' to go  outside, we presumed she wanted a wee.  She went under her favourite shrub and gave birth  to a deformed one.  She then went on to have another couple of proper pups.  But as everyone else has said I would take a vets advice.  Nature does have it's own way of sorting things out though! Please let us know how you get onl,

Can't offer any advice but didn't want to 'read & run'.....

I hope there is good news for the remaining kittens.. please let us know the outcome.
